Founded by Derek Jeter in 1996, the
Turn 2 foundation mission is to create
and support signature programs and
activities that motivate young people
to turn away from drugs and alcohol and
"Turn 2: healthy lifestyles. Through
these ventures, the foundation strives
to create outlets that promote and
reward academic excellence, leadership
development and positive behavior.
On July 1, 2014, Derek Jeter, Major League Baseball, the New York Yankees
and Highland Mint teamed up to create a
national Derek Jeter Coin Program to
celebrate the final season of his
20-year MLB career, it will be
announced tonight in a pre-game
ceremony at Yankee Stadium. Part of the
proceeds from the collection will
benefit Jeter’s Turn 2 Foundation,
which he launched in his rookie year.
One side of the collectors coin featured a special retirement badge, which
the New York Yankees wore on their
uniform sleeves in tribute, during the
remaining games of September, 2014. The
other side features Jeter’s signature,
2014, and "Thank You, Turn 2
Foundation, EST. 1996" The coin given
away to fans that attended Derek Jeter
Day, is dated "Yankee Stadium,
September 7, 2014. The coin came in a
plastic holder with two pouches, the
top for the header card, and the
bottom, the Turn 2 Foundatio coin.
