Bill Gallo was a cartoonist and
newspaper columnist, known for his
cartoons about sports, for the New York
Daily News. Gallo developed the
characters Basement Bertha and Yuchie.
One of Gallo's more famous works was
his 1979 tribute sketch after the death
of Yankees baseball great, Thurman
Munson.
These
original drawings done in ink, were used for book illustrations. If you look
close you can see the ink strokes, with
whiteout used at times for the NY
insignia. Subjects include: Casey Stengel;
Walt Frazier; Yogi Berra; Reggie
Jackson; Howard Cosell, Joe Namath,
George Steinbrenner; Muhammad Ali;
Billy Martin, Don King
and a Bill Gallo
