NOTES:

The G.B Macke Corp. was incorporated in 1934 in Delaware as successor to a cigarette vending business started by Gordon B Macke in 1926. Through the years Macke used a number of marketing ideas to draw customers to the firm's machines. One is that every pack of cigarettes vended thru the firms machines must bear the company's imprint on the cellophane, with the phrase; "Factory Fresh Cigarettes." This Macke Corp. advertising matchbook was used to Lure customers to their cigarette machines throu a Special World Series Contest.

The outer front panel of the cover reads: "THIS IS A SPECIAL WORLD SERIES COVER" on the left of the last part of a Horizontal Full Length cigarette that reads: "Fresh YOUR FAVORITE BRAND ALWAYS AT ITS BEST IN OUR CIGARETTE MACHINES" To the right is a blue & white baseball that reads: EIGHT ALL EXPENSE TRIPS TO THE WORLD SERIES OPENER AS OUR GUESTS SEE INSIDE COVER" Above the baseball is an illustration of a pitcher. The footer reads; "Safety First Close Cover" Safety First footers were used by several companies in 1920s and 1930s. (some examples in the 1940's) The "Saddle" (area between the front & back panels) Reads; "Fresh Cigarettes From Our Machines Are A Hit In Any League"

The back panel is nearly identical to the front but the baseball reads; "MACKE - Look For This Name" The inside of the matchbook Reads: BASEBALL FANS ! (That means You Ladies, Too) SAVE This Special Book Match Cover With Only Save More You Can Enter Our Exciting BASEBALL CONTEST.
