Don Drysdale, ace right-handed
pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers
partnered with Jack Lafaye in 1962, and
opened "Don Drysdale's Dugout." The Van
Nuys 60 seat restaurant and cocktail
lounge located at 14030 Oxnard St.
featured a baseball motif throughout,
from the entrance doors, in the shape
of baseball bats, to the baseball
shaped light fixtures. Drysdale a Van
Nuys native, opened two more Don
Drysdale Dugout restaurants, one in
Santa Ana, and another in Maui, before
calling it quits in 1982.
The Don Drysdale's Dugout matchbooks were produced by Sales Booster Inc.,
in Los Angeles, California. The front
panel features "Don Drysdale's" inside
a baseball with lines behind it,
indicative to the LA Dodgers logo used
on souvenirs. Above
Reads "Dugout," below "Whaler's
Pub" (Lahaina Maui location). The back
panel lists all three locations. The
saddle reads: "Luncheons - Dinners -
Cocktails - Private Parties" The inside
of the matchbook cover features a
facsimile salutation signature, that
reads "My Best Wishes Don Drysdale"
